DSG Servicing Explained
There is lots left unanswered when it comes to DSG Gearboxes and their Servicing – something that the team at Genesis Autoworks West End – Brisbane’s leading DSG Service and Repair experts will explain for you.
The DSG short for Direct Shift Gearbox, also referred to as DCT – Dual Clutch Transmission, is essentially an electronically controlled manual gearbox with clutches and a hydraulic gear shift control unit often referred to as a Mechatronic unit (the brains of the gearbox).
Dual clutch gearboxes come in all designs and variants with various speeds including 6, 7, 8 and in some cases even 9 gears – all with their own set servicing requirements and schedules set by the manufacture.
It should be noted there is not any set DSG Servicing requirements where ‘one size fits all’ – typically each manufacture has different requirements and schedules which we will cover here.
VW DSG Service Requirement
Unarguably the biggest player when it comes to DSG, VW – Volkswagen for short are seen as the pioneers of the DSG world – one of the first manufactures to offer the DSG Gearbox as a primary offering in a set of passenger vehicles, and they have been perfecting it ever since.
The servicing requirements for VW DSG Gearboxes are clear and are in place to safeguard your DSG transmission against undesirable faults and unnecessary repairs. The typical service interval for a VW DSG is 60,000kms or 4 years, whichever occurs first.
Some people decide to service their DSG Gearboxes earlier then this, some even seen to service every 30,000kms – half the recommended interval with zero negative effects.
It should be noted however, the 7 speed dry clutch DSG fitted to many VW Models does not have a recommended service interval, however there is still fluid – but not filter.
Essentially it is a manual grade gearbox oil and we recommend it is replaced at 90,000km intervals for peace of mind.
Manufactures Service Schedules Are Key
